Antique circa 1900 Art Nouveau Gold-Plated Frame with Iris motif. Measures approximately 5 3/8" X 7 3/4" overall; photo/glass area approximately 4 1/4" X 5 1/2". Marked Royal Mfg Co on the back--the frame is done in the French manner by an American company. The French sometimes use white metal as a base for a Dore finish, and this frame is the same. Some of the gilding is worn, probably due to incorrect cleaning/polishing [see my reference to proper cleaning methods on my home page]-- you can see these as darker areas in the photos. Beautiful Art Nouveau Iris flower motif; sensuous curves and very flowing details make this a wonderful addition to any Art Nouveau collection -- the frame even has "feet". Has the original hinge on the back [the mark of a better quality frame] and there are some scratches and wear on the gold-plated back -- see photos.
