Lovely French Bronze arch top frame with Dore (Gold-Plated) finish. Measures approximately 7 1/4" high X 5 1/2" wide overall; the insert measures approximately 2 7/8" X 3 15/16" overall; glass/photo area approximately 2 1/2" X 3 1/2". This type of French frame usually have four Applied [held on with tiny pins] Ornaments--this one has ten! Wreaths, winged women, a rosette, draped women and scroll-work designs are applied onto the silk. Palmate and floral designs adorn the border; the frame has a graceful arched top. Bluish-grey silk may be original or an old replacement. There is some wear to the silk on the easel--please see photos. Wonderfully detailed, this crisp, cast French Bronze frame makes a spectacular addition to any collection. These frames were made from the late 19th Century through the 1920s, but this workmanship seems to indicate a date circa 1890-1900.
