French Bronze Spandrel Frame, circa 1860-70, with unusual bronze patterned mat of floral motif and stripes. Measures approximately 3 7/8" X 4 7/8" high; oval picture/glass area approximately 2 3/4" X 3 5/8". The oval inner liner is another pattern, and the outer border is a third pattern---beautifully cast details on this frame. The back retains its original silk, showing some wear. Convex glass [very slightly convex], ring for hanging, gold-plated finish, back and easel are all original. The print of the lady was added -- the frame originally held a painting on ivory. There is a mark on the easel, that is probably the maker's mark---I have had several frames with this mark and they are always of high quality--see photo. [Was originally priced $295.00].
