Unusual Example of a French Sporting Bronze on Marble Base, this Charming Piece depicts a Cherub Holding a Racquet with one hand, and a "birdie", or shuttlecock, with the other. Beautifully detailed face, quiver with arrows, and the sash 'round his waist. He stands approximately 9 1/2" with a 3 1/2" diameter round base; the base itself is 2 3/4" high. The bottom is covered with felt. He is barefoot, and looks as if he is ready to launch the birdie and send it flying! Weighs over 3 lbs, 9 oz. Some teeny flakes to the marble base at edges. Probably dates circa 1890-1910. Unsigned. If you collect Cherubs, or Sporting Bronzes, this is a wonderful addition to any Collection. Warm reddish-brown patina.
