Antique vulcanite bracelet. The inner circumference measures 6 1/4" when relaxed. The bracelet measures 7 3/4" end to end. It measures 1 5/8" at the widest tapering to 7/8" wide. The center plaque is riveted on and measures 1 5/8" in diameter. It has a molded ribbon and floral design. There is a vulcanite loop in the design that was probably made to hang a tiny charm from. The bracelet does have give to ease putting it on. This would have originally been black but the color has turned to khaki brown from years of exposure to light and oxygen. Vulcanite is a hard natural rubber that was used as an inexpensive imitation for Whitby jet jewelry that was so popular in the Victorian era. The design looks intricately carved but vulcanite pieces were molded not carved. Condition is excellent.
