Antique saphiret glass cufflinks. The findings are signed Acme. One finding is also signed Pat Aug 24 1880. The cufflinks measure 3/4" in diameter each. The metal is gold plated brass. Each cufflink is set with a 5/8" diameter saphiret glass cabochon. Saphiret glass was made by pouring liquid gold into sapphire blue glass. The resulting mocha pink frosted glass flashes blue under light. This type of glass was no longer made after 1899 because the cost of gold made it too expensive to produce. This glass is now very collectable. There is much wearing off of the gold plating on the reverse of each cufflinks. The findings are bent but in good working order. The glass has no scratches, no chips.
