Antique Roman Micro Mosaic box signed and crafted in the workshop of Cesare Roccheggiani. The lid of the box is depicting the Doves of Pliny, crafted in artful Roman Micro Mosaic work. It is of excellent quality and crafted in various blue and white shades. The Mosaic is in perfect condition, there is no damage of any kind. The box has a hexagonal shape and is made of painted wood with colorful flower carvings The box is inside tufted with red silk and velvet with the name of Cesare Roccheggiani.The box closes perfectly and is dated at the 19th century.

Note: Cesare Roccheggiani was employed at the Vatican Micro Mosaic workshop from 1856 to 1864, but also set up his own workshop which is recorded firstly at 125 Via Babuino and then, by 1874, at 14 & 15 Via Condotti. Here he mostly produced small decorative pieces for the tourist market, such as the present lot.
