Russian lacquer box in the style of Palekh depicting a fairy tale scene. Palekh is a village near Moscow and is known for its unique style , features and vivid colors with fairy tale themes.The boxes are made of papier-mâché and go through a seven-step process to produce the finely crafted boxes for the artists to paint upon. They are traditionally finished with a coat of black lacquer on the outside and red on the inside The box has beautiful vivid colors and a filigree gold leaf design on the rim.
