A very rare and spectacular French hand embroidery on black cotton satin from the mid 1920s.
The appliqued flowers are very 3D and have a strong tactile feel.
The color harmony of pinks, yellows, greens and purple against a pitch black background is breathtaking.
The work is done with a thick, rustic, shiny cotton thread "Cotton Perlé", close to silk, and was meant to become one of these huge Art Deco pillows of the time, though it was never used, which means it still has all its freshness and vibrancy.
The piece is a perfect country French artifact, and could definitely be on the cover of crafts magazine as well as in the Folk Museums of the world.
In very good condition. No particular damage. Clean.
