A French watercolor from right after WWII with the atmosphere you would find in a typical B & W Noir movie of the time!
The piece shows 2 old leather bound books next to a rustic wine bottle, the kind that was hand blown and kept in a French wine cellar for a couple generations.
The piece has some pencil sketch of its subject above the watercolor rendering, which I find really cool, as it enhances the spontaneous, genuine feel of the artwork.
The watercolor is done on artist's paper and signed "Maubuisson" at the bottom.
There is another signed still life by Maubuisson at the back, not bad at all actually, except less "noir" and more traditional, showing the deep red wine from the bottle, in all its glory!
This piece is dated 1946 by the artist.
A poetic artwork capturing the spirit of the Continent right after the war, and which will bring character to any decor.
CONDITION: In good condition with normal aging of the paper.
MEASUREMENTS: Length: 13". Width: 12 3/4".
