This rare artwork signed in the plate and dated 1932 was published on the cover of a 1934 French Opera pamphlet.
The piece is by Leonetto Cappiello, (1875-1944) a world famous illustrator who has left us the most striking Art Nouveau posters (Cinzano, Campari, etc..)
His works are in Musee d'Orsay, Le Louvre, and the MOMA in New York, to name a few.
Cappiello was an artist of the extreme!
This insolent portrait of a Spanish dancer, is strongly Art Deco, with a cabaret feel and a rare, distorted visual perspective, tyopical of the artist.
A rare Cappiello piece with A LOT of character, which will bring Art Deco chic to any decor!
You may want to also check my other Cappiello pieces: 3429pnt and 3041pnt which form an excellent pair.
