They are divine!
A rare pair of reverse paintings on glass or "Fixe sous verre" from the late 18th Century, circa 1780-1800 in remarkable condition.
These exquisite pieces are landscapes by rivers, with castles in the background, and little characters in the foreground.
They were found in France and I believe are French, though they could also be Flemish or Italian.
The glass is not white but tinted as was the case at the time and it has tiny bubbles, which also comes from its antique technique.
It has been cut with a rougher tool than today, with both pieces not perfectly equal, but this is quite well done even so.
The paintings which resembles vignettes from old stained windows may have been briefly fired.
These small treasures deserve a lovely frame, maybe even a light box, and can be framed separately or together to form a larger piece on the wall. or displayed on a piece of furniture.
These sophisticated artifacts will bring elegance and character to any decor!
In remarkable condition.
No damage or loss to the paintings .
No crack to the glass either.
Just some irregularities along the edges, with corners uneven or slightly chipped
