A fabulous 1930s still life from France with A LOT of Country French charm!
The piece is fairly large and is an oil on canvas.
It is signed "M. Horry" in the lower right corner.
A cheerful vase of striking dahlias in 3 contrasted tones: burgundy, bright yellow and pink, insures the vertical dimension to the left, with its counterpoint to the right: an unusually tall footed glass.
In the center a delightful display of luscious cherries in a basket.
I believe these cherries are Montmorency cherries or "griottes". Small, slightly acid, they are perfect to preserve in strong alcohol called "eau de vie". And the tall footed glass to the right is very likely a 'verre a liqueur" a glass to savor this cherry liquor, traditional in the country.
A poetic piece which will illuminate any decor!
In good condition.
Wood structure shows on the pics but not in real
Small tear in the upper right area, hardly visible, patched at the back.
Fold in the lower right corner. This will even out in framing.
Minor wear to the canvas consistent with age, only visible if you hold the piece to the light.
Length: 19 3/4" Width: 15 1/2"
