This antique French drawing is so beautiful!
It shows an amazingly compact flower arrangement in an antique vase, and has both incredible details and enormous charm.
The piece comes from an artist's sketch book, and still has its tissue protection (rolled on the left hand side)
It is done with pencil and has strictly no loss.
The flowers are seen with the eyes of a 19th Century artist, and just like the representation of pets at the time (Please see my fun Chin dogs print) they are very exotic, with shapes really different from our contemporary sensitivity.
There are irises on the outside, but they look as much as big moths as they look as irises, Daisies are quite recognizable but roses or wild roses are more like decorative compositions. There are small flowers everywhere and a variety of leaves and grains sticking out or bending nicely like willow branches.
The result is lush, partly realistic, partly surrealistic and has genuine beauty.
The vase looks like a glazed pottery with motifs minutely rendered by the artist.
A small masterpiece of Victorian Art to keep very preciously!
