A rare French painting from the Impressionistic era, circa 1875-1880 in the spirit of Cezanne and Pissaro.
The painting is a medium-sized oil on wood signed "L. Barbié" in the lower left corner, with a label at the back adding "Doctor Louis Barbié" and the title of the work: "a few trees bordering a field".
Though Docteur Barbié seemed to have lived in Saint Ouen, close to Paris, the landscape looks very much like the Normandy Bocage, with its lines of trees dividing fields and battered by the wind.
Colors and light have the rare quality of the famous 19th C French School, with the very special patina antique oils on wood acquire with time.
This excellent artwork with its delightful simplicity and impressive style, will bring prestige to a lot of decors.
CONDITION: In very good condition. Some irregularities in the wood along the edges
MEASUREMENTS: Length: 18". Width:12 3/4".
