Done in Black and White in 1929 with a few strong shades of gray, this is an amazing pair of Art Deco scenes with nudes by John Vassos (1898-1985), a Romanian-born American designer, stage designer, and futuristic book illustrator.
This semi-abstract stage of his work is the strongest in his career in my opinion.
One scene shows a nude man sitting in front of a volcano, and watching in awe as the lava overflows.
while the other scene portrays a proud actor wearing a peplum and holding a Greek mask. A female nude sitting in the background
The characters are set against amazing Art Deco landscapes of light volutes and dark rocks.
The compositions are highly contrasted, minimalist, and incredibly elegant.
Definitely a perfection in the Art Deco style!
This stunning pair will bring refinement to any decor.
