Circa 1850-60, a stunning Tunbridge Ware marquetry box from the Victorian era, with flame mahogany panels on each side, a rare inlaid palmetto motif on top, and an amazing green wood inside.
The box is fairly large and can contain a lot of treasures. This pristine green interior is so inviting!
it also has the massive 19th Century wood structure we all love.
The palmettos on top are a rare combination of olive green and black. This with the nearly black edge, makes the box not only colorful, but also visually contrasted, and altogether a small crafts masterpiece.
The box is in good condition, with all flame mahogany panels intact, which is fairly rare, and a fabulous inside.
However, the dark wood edge has suffered more, and has a variety of small restorations, particularly at the corners.
This is not invisible, but it does blend well with the rest of this beautiful box.
One corner palmetto on top also has a restoration.
Closes rather well.
