A very rare and particularly elegant pair of puttis riding "Tritons" circa 1740-80.
These are pencil drawings, enhanced with white watercolor, against a muted teal wash.
(No shadows in the actual pieces)
Cherubs riding Tritons are antique decorative motifs, dating back to the Romans, and the pair will bring Neo-Classical elegance to any decor.
The colors are very soft, an artistic choice, but also due to age, which makes the pair easy to match with a lot of styles.
Both pieces are the same size (by 1/4")
You will notice a margin at the bottom. I suggest covering it in framing as it re-centers the subjects better in my opinion.
This divine pair will bring prestige to any decor!
CONDITION: In very good condition with only minor foxing. Slight restoration of the background color with pastel. Though not perfect, with some mini tears, edges are about the best they can get for pieces that age.
Length: between 10 1/2" and 10 3/4". Width: between 7 1/2 to 7 3/4".
(26.5 cm to 27.5 cm) by (19 cm to 19.5 cm)
Will be shipped "Expedited" from Paris, including insurance and signature at delivery.
