An exquisite engraving by Achille Deveria, a French artist I often carry,
(See Ascagne: 1972pnt, Dido's Sister: 1973pnt)
and who is not only listed in the Benezit, but is in all the major Museums of the world. (Le Louvre, British Museum, Getty Museum, etc.)
This is an early work by Deveria, circa 1820-25 I would say, when he is still a Classicist, and reveals the finesse of his drawing skills.
The piece is small, but the nude is magnificent!
What a perfection.
This is the story of Pygmalion and Galatea.
Galatea is a blonde, still being created by Pygmalion and a bit spaced out it seems.
Pygmalion is so enthralled with her, that he constantly comes back to admire her.
The text says with humor: "it's me again!".
How often do your admirers show such enthusiasm?
The piece is signed "Deveria" in the lower left corner, (Gelee is the engraver) and will bring a touch pf antique elegance to any decor.
