Circa 1880, a miniature but exquisite French Impressionistic drawing, showing a young peasant woman adjusting her stockings.
No doubt the piece had an erotic connotation at the time!
The young lady is wearing wooden clogs, a rustic skirt with large flowers
and her stockings which are probably a thick wool, and not silk like in the cities are attached with ribbons fastened just above the knees.
As she is adjusting her left stocking, she of course reveals a little more of her legs.
The woman is probably standing in front of a fireplace, and her shadow gives the piece a lot of character.
A delightful original, not signed at the front, but the name of the artist appears at the back: "Graulere".
MEASUREMENTS: (with margins) Length: 4 7/8". Width: 3 7/8".
( 12 cm) by ( 10cm)
CONDITION: In very good condition, with a small tear in the lower right margin. Not very visible.
Will be shipped "Registered" from Parisl, including insurance and signature at delivery.
