I had this delightful 1890s jewelry creation last year as a regular pin, and was thrilled to find the stickpin version.
The piece is made of a 1886 Argentina silvered coin, which is cutout around the Greek head, with the silver showing, while the edge of the coin is cut out like a moon crescent and stripped of its silver layer to reveal the golden brass underneath.
This seems to have been extremely fashionable at the time as I was able to find 2 pieces in 2 years (please don't smile!)
In this piece, rose gold has been rolled on the brass, making the crescent and the contrast with the silver, even more striking.
Breaded stick, as was the fashion at the time.
I believe these pins were worn by men at the time, but of course today they are perfect for both men and women.
A rare piece with real character and a lot of antique charm!
Stickpins make wonderful collections, as they help you recreate a world in miniature. Their creativity is endless!
