A totally amazing 1850 depiction of a receptionist!
This is a French print and the young woman is called "Demoiselle de Comptoir".
She is entering names or figures into a big green book with a feather (no pen or telephone yet!) and is sitting in a special autonomous wooden structure which completely surrounds her.
There is a low side door to escape once in a while, and a front counter.
She could be working in an office, a restaurant or a store.
She wears of course the long dress of the time, and has the hairstyle of the Victorian era.
She seems to really enjoy her job!
The piece is signed "Vendul" and "L'Ami" (the engraver very likely)
Colors are the original 19th Century colors, all applied by hand.
A rare and whimsical piece which will bring fun and character to any decor!
Length: 9 3/4". Width: 6 1/2".
