I am delighted to have found another "Jeune Fille Aux Pigeons", the title of this fabulous French Art Nouveau piece, which sold in the store last year.
The piece is a chromo lithograph (same as a lithograph, but with several stones) done after a watercolor by Robert Ruepp, and published on fairly thick matte paper circa 1890-1900. in the XIII issue of "Le Journal de la Decoration". (Mention on top of the piece)
"Le Journal de la Decoration", a luxury Art Nouveau quarterly, was published in Paris by Armand Guerinet (Mention at bottom of the piece)
and in Stuttgart in its German version. (all Art plates are identical, only the language is different)
The publication is famous in its own right, and the whole series is kept in prestigious libraries like the Smithsonian.
As for "Jeune Fille Aux Pigeons", you will find her in online Gallery of the New York Public Library under her German name: "Mädchen mit Tauben".
She is Image ID: 818694
The piece which has the most lovely pastels: a harmony of cream, green, ochre and pink, represents a charming young woman wearing an elegant Art Nouveau dress, with a very interesting bodice, and feeding pigeons in a garden.
Behind her is a streamlined fountain, and above her are rose trees.
This exquisite figural scene, is framed in an elaborate Art Nouveau decor, which has a lot in common with the famous Guimard's Paris Metro entrances. What was then called: the "Nouille" style.
Robert Ruepp, or Atelier Ruepp, a listed artist, was a star in the Decorative Arts of the time and his works today are in many Museums.
Originally from Switzerland, he was known all over Europe, and had a huge space for his decors in the Universal Exhibition of 1900.
This Art Nouveau treasure will bring elegance and poetry to any decor!
MEASUREMENTS: Length: 13 1/4". Width: 9 1/8". (34 cm) by (23.25 cm)
CONDITION: In very good condition. Slight loss to the upper left corner. No foxing. (Shadows not in the piece)
Will be shipped "Expedited" from Paris including online tracking, insurance and signature at delivery.
