An exquisite print, circa 1910, representing St Peter, the Pope's residence in Rome, with its famous esplanade: St Peter's square, as it was back in the 18th Century, animated with adorable little characters and horse drawn carriages.

Although the sky and esplanade are a soft gray, everything else is a pastel color: beige, ocher, red, blue, and 2 shades of green for the vegetation on the hills.

The piece is extremely detailed, from the innumerable statues topping the columns that surround St Peter's square, to the monuments in the background, to the lovely costumes of the visitors.

One can even read the time on St Peter's clocks!

The piece is signed Flameng (artist) and Pannemaker (engraver) below the image,
and comes from a French book, (with text at the back) and is printed on very thick paper.

It has its original hand watercolor.

A delightful antique piece. which will bring character to any decor.
