From the 1890s, a breathtaking French Art Nouveau portrait of a young woman with beautiful eyes and ivy leaves in her hair.
The piece which is is fairly large, is done with a light charcoal.
The whole Art Nouveau period is just magical, and one sometimes wonder why it was this short era had so much grace in its artistic expressions!
This is the best Art Nouveau drawing I have personally seen, outside Museums, in the past 15 years I have been browsing for Art Nouveau.
The face of the young woman is a perfection: softness, youthfulness, character. She has a well defined mouth, and pensive eyes, rendered with an amazing velvet touch by the artist's charcoal.
Though obviously a portrait made from a real model, the young woman could also be a representation of Flora, the Greek goddess, whose presence was felt throughout the Art Nouveau times.
The piece is done on artist's paper with a very slight green tone, which seems to have been a favorite with French artists in the 1880s-1890s.
An extraordinary piece which will transfigure any decor.
