This Grandville print has so much charm!
An authentic 1847 artwork from the "De Gonet" French edition, (not a reproduction!) it is signed Grandville in the plate and has original hand watercolor.
"Erratum" is a special page in many antique books, that lists the minor inaccuracies in the text.
In "Les Fleurs Animees", the page not being devoted to any flower in particular, gathers a bunch of characters, for our own delight.
The tone is frankly humorous, with several hilarious portraits.
"Erratum" is also more colorful than other pages.
The flower in the center is the Everlasting, and she makes her immortal status clear to everyone!
She has the shy bluebell by her side (who also appears in a separate artwork)
The laurel, this old fashioned bore, who did not notice he was wearing a shoe and a sandal, is fulminating at everyone on a small platform, but who cares?
Certainly not the outrageous tobacco lady, smoking a huge cigar.
This is surrealism before surrealism! with the quality of a Lewis Caroll's story.
A small Grandville masterpiece to keep very preciously.
