More humorous than gruesome! this is a 19th Century representation of a Chinese criminal held in a bucket, surrounded by curious chickens.
The text says this is just public exposure before trial. ( better not know what happens if he is convicted)
The piece is an engraving from a 19th Century French book and it is signed "Swainse" in the plate.
The criminal has his head and hands caught in wood, very much like in the famous wood planks.
The chickens are hilarious! A whole family of them attracted by this human creature right at their level.
A rare antique print to keep very preciously.
CONDITION: Really very good, with no damage. Just normal foxing in the margins.
MEASUREMENTS: Length: 10 1/2". (26.5 cm) Width: 6 3/4". (17 cm)
Will be shipped Registered Airmail from Paris (very safe!) including insurance and signature at delivery.
