A luxurious edition of Machiavelli's "The Prince", a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance literature, published in Paris 35-40 years ago by Jean de Bonnot.
Jean de Bonnot's books became a sensation at the time, as the publisher decided to go back to antique book binding.
His books were all hand made with super thick genuine leather, tooled with antique irons, gilt with real gold, and printed on special watermarked paper.
They were not distributed in bookstores, but only sold via subscriptions and are therefore very exclusive, limited editions.
The book has a stunning ultra thick leather cover, in a refined medium brown, with fantastic Renaissance lettering and tooled motifs of knights in armor fighting in a tournament, and inside the cover, a precious gold and blue ornate paper.
It is illustrated all over with portraits of Machiavelli, Cesar Borgia and rare Renaissance woodcuts.
By all means a fantastic book, and besides, one of the most intense texts in literature!
Translated into French.
Will make a very appreciated gift.
