From a French private collection, an extraordinary English box from the Georgian times, circa 1820 with a stunning marquetry of a castle and a floral motif of roses on every side.
The box is still in good condition after 190 years or so! and the marquetry still very vivid.
The dark wood is probably mahogany, while the blonde one may be pine. The marquetry is absolutely exquisite, with an incredible level of details and was so well done, it is still very sturdy.
A genuine treasure of ancient craftsmanship, and the ultimate Georgian box!
MEASUREMENTS: Length: 9 1/2". Width: 3 6/8". Height: 2 7/8".
CONDITION: Very good. Closes well, though it has no more key. Split in the bottom part which does not seem to affect the overall solidity. Slightly disjointed, so be gentle with it, and preferably hold the bottom in your hand. Slight, normal loss of the marquetry. The box was cleaned and waxed. And the very old paper that was inside has been removed, so only the clean wood shows now. Should last another Century easily!
