An antique Regency wooden sewing or work box with Mother of Pearl and brass stringing. The sarcophagus style box with fern and floral inlay of maple has one interior removable tray. Gadroon decoration adds detail to the raised lid along with the turned wooden handles. Highly decorated boxes were related to a person's wealth as with furniture of the Regency period. Only the wealthy could afford furniture, tea caddies, sewing or work boxes that contained the best materials and required precision work of highly skilled craftsmen.
