An antique papier mache blotter/folio hand painted with inlay of mother of pearl and abalone shells. A delicate floral motif is hand painted in the center with gold pen work along with the inlay of shells. Each corner bears translucent white blossoms along. The blotter has four yellow paper pages and gold satin lining. The quality is in line with the works of Jennens and Bettridge paper mache pieces; however, the blotter is unmarked.
The paper itself is impressed with the words "Ford Mill". The mill began producing paper in 1767 and was one of many water mills along River Wye in Buckinghamshire, England. All four pages are quite clean. A lovely piece to use or display.
