Antique Royal Doulton Bouillon Cream Soup Bowls Set of 8 by Designer Robert Allen Edwardian Era
A set of eight antique Royal Doulton bouillon/cream soup bowls with under plates. The set is marked for the studio of Robert Allen who was not only an important artist but also a pattern designer for Royal Doulton. The pattern number is #5485 and the cups feature a female statue with a musical instrument. She stands on a raised base between Ionic columns in a formal garden. Of interesting note; the under plates feature a different statue with a different instrument. The china is further decorated with floral swags and gilt trim on the top and bottom edges along with the handles. Soft greens and warm browns on a pure while background with a touch of gilt in a very classical design. A stunning way to serve Cold Cucumber Soup as a first course or White Chocolate Mint Mousse for dessert.
English,Circa 1910; marked for Royal Doulton and Robert Allen, ra 7203, English Registry # 572,670 The set is also marked for J. E. Caldwell & Co. of Philadelphia, PA. Caldwell was a fine retailer of china, silver, and jewelry. Measurements; under plate 5 ½” in diameter, cup 2 ¾” high and 2 ¾” diameter Condition report; Very good, two minor flea bites on gilt edges, one bowl has a small hairline which is stable.
