A pair of English sterling silver menu holders or place card holders in the form of shells. Complimented by detailed bases, these pieces are inspired by the 19th century trend of using seashells as decorative objects.

Travel to seaside resorts became popular during the 19th C. The Victorians enjoyed visits to the seashores and were enchanted with shells. Not only in the form of collecting them but using the shape for their homes and dining tables. Enchanting reminders of the joy that comes from time by the seaside.

English, fully hallmarked for sterling silver as denoted by the leopard mark, anchor mark for assay town of Birmingham,"z" mark for the year 1899, and makers mark "P&D" (which is being researched)

Measurements: 1 5/8" high and base is 1 5/8" wide

Condition: In very good condition with no repair or damage. Normal wear and surface scratches, some wear to felt bottoms all in accordance with age and use.
