A set of two vintage French silver plate coffee cup filter sets. The single cup Drip-o-lator style sets are very decorative. Seashell decorations add interest to the tops along with the round handles with black button style ends. The two holders are worked in guilloche and have an oval cartouche engraved with “Société Cafés Toulousains”. The company owned several cafes during the golden age of the great Toulouse cafes which existed from the Belle Epoque Era to the inter-war years.
Style, coffee, and a little bit of history in each cup. Perfect gift for the devoted coffee lover.
Each coffee filter consists of three separate parts: the main body with handles that is to be placed over cups or mugs, the plunger that fits inside, and a lid. The set also includes two glass coffee cups with silver plate holders.
To brew: Ground coffee is placed in the holder with handles and then boiling water is poured over the grounds. The plunger is added next and it is used to filter and pushed down on the coffee grounds and it pours into the cup. The bottom lid can then be placed under the filter to prevent dripping once it is removed from the cup.
French, circa 1940, silver plate is marked for Felix Frères, French silversmiths in Toulouse from the 1890’s – 1960’s.
Measurements; Each coffee filter set measures 3 1/2 inches high and the body is 2 3/8 inches in diameter. The bottom dish measures 3 ¾ inches in diameter
Condition Report; overall very good, clean interiors, small amount of wear to silver plate. The tops have a few scuffs on the top from use. The cup holders are slightly out of round near the tops but the glasses still fit very well.
