This spectacular footed, covered compote is the "Stippled Grape & Festoon" pattern, aka "Doyle #28", made by Doyle & Co., circa 1871. This fabulous eapg pattern features clear, and stippled portions, grape bunches, and a lovely acorn finial! There are clear grape leaves on the lid, and textured grape leaves on the bowl. The leaf garlands are clear on both pieces. The bowl and stem were joined using the "glass wafer" method. Measures 8 inches tall x 8 1/4 inches across the rim of the bowl. This Awesome compote is in Very GOOD condition with no major chips or cracks, though there are some tiny "fleabites" around the inside rim of the lid - None on the rim of the bowl! These are to be expected after 145 years (especially on the lid, from use) and can't be seen when the lid is in place. Expect the usual charming characteristics of Victorian era glass, ie. occasional bubbles, surface annealing lines, tiny bits of ash, etc. This old glass also glows a lovely yellow-green under uv light to further verify age!
