Northwood ring neck, cranberry spatter, Victorian art glass sugar shaker
This magnificent, Victorian art glass sugar shaker, or muffineer, was produced by the Harry Northwood Company, Wheeling, West Virginia, circa 1890. It is a vivid cranberry and white glass *spattered (fired) onto crystal clear glass. This antique glass shaker pattern is simply referred to as 'Ring neck' in the catalogs, and was also made by the Hobbs Brockunier company. Measuring 5 inches tall x 3 1/2 inches wide at the base, this sugar shaker is in EXcellent condition, with NO chips or damage! There are the usual characteristics of Victorian era glass - ie. lots of bubbles and a bit rough around the top rim opening, which is quite normal for this antique mold-blown glass! The metal lid is also in excellent condition and fits well! This shaker glows a soft yellow-green under uv light to further verify age! What a Fabulous addition to your collection, or, even, for everyday use...It feels great to hold - what a treasure!
*This fabulous "Spatter" glass was most popular between 1892 - 1905.
