This is an fabulous Antique tall crystal, clear glass pepper shaker - these first pepper shakers were often called 'saloon shakers'. This is a Victorian mold-blown glass shaker with a long neck and one protruding ring at the base of the neck - it measures a large 6 1/4 inches tall, with lid X 2 5/8 inches across the base. Attributed to Atterbury & Co. who patented several Very similar saloon pepper shakers, circa 1870's. This old saloon shaker is in Very good condition with no chips, cracks, or cloudiness and even retains it's great original pewter finial lid in Very good condition. The top rim (under the lid) has typical roughness for Victorian mold-blown glass shakers - this is where the shaker was snapped off of the pontil rod - and a sign that the they are truly antique! This old glass also glows a strong yellow-green under uv blacklight to further verify age. These antique Saloon pepper shakers are rarely seen anymore - Quite a special treaSure!
