Victorian Art glass antique cased 'tortoise shell' swirl tumbler
This marvelous, antique Victorian Art glass tumbler is a triple-cased, multi-colored, 'one-of-a-kind' BeAuTy! This antiQue art glass tumbler was skillfully mold-blown with an inner layer of white opal glass, an intermediate layer of multi-colored, or ‘tortoise shell’ spatter glass - all encased in a third layer of shiny clear crystal! There are hues of brown, red, yellow, and blue! It has 24 swirling, raised ribs, a smooth 7/8 inch top rim, and a polished, slightly concave pontil on the bottom. I believe this to be a product of the Phoenix Consolidated Glass Company, however similar 'spatter' type, mold-blown, art glass items were made by several American glass manufacturers in the late 1800’s, including: Hobbs Brockunier, Phoenix Consolidated, and the Northwood Glass Co. This gorgeous antique tumbler measures 3 3/4 inches tall X 2 3/8 inches across the bottom X 2 5/8 inches across the top opening. In Excellent condition with no chips or cracks - just the usual characteristics of Victorian glass, ie. tiny bubbles, and a very, very minute bit of roughness around the inner rim. A SwEeT Victorian Art glass RariTy - Sure to become one of your favorite TrEaSuReS!
