This is a beautiful example of a steel beaded scenic purse. It is a 100 years old and most likely from France or Austria. It is loomed......not on a machine, but loomed by hand with the tiniest of French cut steel beads. According to Evelyn Haertig in her book "More Beautiful Purses", purses like this one were most likely to have been imported from France and Austria in the years following the first World War. Steel beaded purses with a scene are rare and this scene is colorful and is the same on both sides. The fringe on it is fabulous! The lining has been professionally replaced. There are 3 missing beads on the back and evidence of two small repairs. See if you can find them....they were expertly done......but email me if you need help locating them.
This beautiful purse measures 6.5" wide and 10" long, including the fringe. The drop on the chain is 7".
