1940 Silent Butler Dish by Chase U.S.A. This unique piece is composed of a chrome metal and bakelite to form what is known as a Silent Butler. This unique contraption has a pear shaped dish with a beautiful butterscotch toned bakelite which makes a handle and lid opener. The lid flips up to reveal a space which was used for cigarette ash. The ashes were placed inside the dish and then thrown away. The dish measures 11 1/2" from handle end to tip and 5 3/4" wide. It is also 1 3/4" deep. The handle was tested and showed to be true bakelite with the 409 test. This is a great piece of Tobacco memorabilia and is signed "Chase U.S.A." on the bottom with a man on a horse shooting a bow and arrow. This dates the dish to around 1940.
