A very rare and unique piece of costume jewelry made by DeNicola for Hattie Carnegie. It is known that DeNicola started his business under the tutelage of world renown designer Hattie Carnegie during the early 1950s. What is unknown is how a piece like this one bares the signature of both designers. I personally have never seen such an item but cannot deny that this piece has both signatures which is very rare to find. This necklace is composed of a thick gold tone metal foundation which forms the chain made up of rings that are doubled up to form a tightly locked design. The chain suspends a centerpiece composed of gold tone metal keys that criss-cross behind a coin that reads "Republique Francaise" or The French Republic. This section attaches to a draping gold tone mesh metal band that connects to a large marbled brown plastic oval cabochon centerpiece. Finally two gold tone metal keys are suspended on each side of a center gold tone coin. The back of the top French Republic coin section is signed with both "Hattie Carnegie" and "DeNicola" hallmarks inside of oval cartouches. The chain is fastened with a spring ring clasp and the entire necklace measures 18 1/8" long with the centerpiece section being 8" in length. This item is in great overall condition and was most likely made sometime in the 1950s when DeNicola worked as a designer making jewelry for Hattie Carnegie.
