A very old piece of Italian mosaic jewelry. This piece has a brass base metal that holds a unique floral design made up of stone tiles. This specific piece is known as "petra dura" according to C. Jeanenne Bell author of "Answers to Questions About Old Jewelry". This is a style of mosaic that uses strategically cut stones fitted with black background stone. This style was popular in mosaics from Florence, Italy. This item has small pieces of cut stone in colors of white, red, turquoise, green, black, blue, and orange that are strategically organized to make up a perfect floral motif. The two corners of the pin also have red and yellow tiles surrounding a black star design which looks nice as well. The back of this item has a pin and an old locking "C" clasp closure. The design and clasp date the mosaic pin to sometime in the 1920s. The signature "Made In Italy" is also on the back side and the entire pin measures 1 7/8" long by 3/4" wide. This item has worn a bit from age but still looks very pretty and has such a special quality and collectible appeal.
