Vintage Chanel Novelty Company 1941 Festoon Necklace
A piece of gold tone metal jewelry made by the Chanel Novelty Company. Legend has it that jewelry with "Chanel" marked in script were only used for one season in the spring of 1941. This immediately changed after Coco Chanel sued over the unauthorized use of her name. This just goes to show how rare and limited pieces like this are. This item is composed of an old gold plated brass metal chain that breaks off into two strands to make up the top. The necklace has two round gold tone over brass metal festoons that have gold plated open work metal designs to them. These two pieces connect to a rectangular gold plated metal open work design and the center pendant hangs by five gold plated metal rings from this. The centerpiece is a large gold tone metal medallion that has a base level with a smaller gold tone metal medallion on top of that. Finally the necklace has five equal length dangles hanging off of it. The back of the centerpiece is signed "Chanel" and the necklace is fastened with a spring ring clasp that holds very securely. This item measures 14 1/4" in length with the centerpiece section being 3 1/4" long by 1 1/2" wide. This necklace is in excellent condition with hardly any wear to the gold tone brass metal.
Gender: Female, Age Group: Adult, Color: Gold, Size: 14 1/4" long
