A beautiful vintage signed Sherman faux Alexandrite rhinestone necklace and clip earrings in silver-tone rhodium plate with the original presentation box.
Size: necklace 17 inches of wearable length, including the extender. Earrings: 1 5/8 inches long.
The color-changing rhinestones are the faceted oval cuts and chatons; the marquise-cut stones remain pale lavender in color. The effect is stunning and shows why faux Alexandrite is so highly sought-after; add the quality and allure of Sherman and you have a masterpiece.
All pieces are signed `Sherman'. The shiny rhodium plating is in very good condition with no noted wear. One earring clip-back feels slightly looser than the other. The necklace has one marquise stone in the left focal piece (looking at the necklace as pictured) that has an area of cloudiness toward one end of the stone; under a loupe we can see spotting inside the stone. One earring has some white speckling inside the large oval stone, but it appears clear to the eye. These minor drawbacks do not detract from the overall appearance of the set when worn and are mentioned for accuracy.
The box appears to be one of the earlier boxes, reading 'Jewels by Sherman' instead of the phrase 'Jewels of Elegance' which was used later. The box has a lot of wear; there is some nail polish on top and bottom and one burned spot on the top. The interior is in good condition.
