Very cool beaded and crocheted handbag from the mid-1960s – early ‘70s. Crocheting underwent a real renaissance in the mid to late ’60s and early ‘70s (think granny-square afghans you see in vintage shops today; I started mine in about 1967). I believe this bag was made from a kit: you got all the materials and just added your skills and labor! The maker of this bag was quite skilled; I shudder to think of the hours that went into the making of this bag.
The handles and bottom of the bag are clear Lucite with silver sparkles throughout. The black beads are crocheted together with silver and black crochet thread: a great combination. Note the evenness of the needlework attaching the clear base.
The bag measures approximately 9” by 9”, including the handle. It is in excellent condition.
