These sweet pillow shams from the 1930s feature two mice – I’m guessing Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. The Minnie figure is beating a big drum; Mickey is waving and cheering her on.
The figures are simply delightful. Minnie’s head, dress, and drum are appliqued cloth, the rest of her and the complete Mickey figure are embroidered. The shams have nice detail around the edges. One side is open to insert a pillow or stuffing and has a finished flap that secures the pillow in place. The shams measure 13 X 16-1/4 inches. Overall, they are in very good condition, with some discoloration on the back of one (see photo). The shams are off-white/eggshell in color; I don’t think this is discoloration, because the color is uniform throughout, even on the inside hem of the flap. (That being said, I am not a textile expert.)
These shams would make a delightful addition to a Mickey Mouse collection or a young child’s room.
