This lovely Art Nouveau Rhodolite garnet brooch has a 2 carat marquis garnet, measuring 13.5mm by 6 mm prong set in 9ct rose gold. The pin measures 1-5/8 inches x 3/8 inches. The hallmarks depict it was made in Chester England and dates to 1906. The design is both masculine and feminine, as were many pieces from this era, with straight lines, scrolls and amazing detailing. The brooch has a C clasp closure. The garnet is beautifully cut, and is a beautiful purple red color with wonderful clarity. There are some minor scratches on the surface of the stone and a minor chip at the right prong setting, not noticeable with the naked eye. (Please see last picture taken under 10 x magnifications). This does not in any way detract from this lovely brooch. It is said wearing the birthstone designated for your month of birth brings good luck and protection. Garnets are the January birthstone and were named from the Latin word for seeds, granatus, because of the resemblance to pomegranates.
