Art Deco Jewellery displays a love of clean lines, bold colours and sophisticated design, including geometrical shapes, squares, rectangles, triangles. Synthetic rubies were the first lab-created gem invented in 1902 by French chemist Auguste Verneuil. Their chemical composition, crystal structure and optical and physical properties are exactly the same as natural rubies. During the time of Art Deco, synthetic rubies were still very expensive because of high production cost. And when synthetic gemstones first came onto the market they were highly praised, not only for their beauty but also for the ability of the jeweler to match the hue of the stone when paring multiples stones. In fact, the majority of pieces from the Edwardian and Art Deco era that have accent rubies, or sapphires, have accent synthetic stones. This does not devalue these antique pieces; it is in fact, one of the ways of ascertaining a piece of jewelry’s age.
SIze 7.5 -8 In very good pre owned condition with some minor wear to the ruby. A recent, official appraisal with a value of $2,840 is included with this purchase.
