From a small collection of Political Posters from the OSPAAAL (Organization of Solidarity of the People of Asia, Africa, and Latin America) , this is one of four RARE Originals, each on heavy card stock, and all in very good condition. Excellent condition overall. No tape marks on front (old tape on back both upper corners) No pin holes, no tears. There is a slight crease in middle running left to right and a small scratch upper right corner as seen in pics. Even though there is a crease, I do not believe this poster has been folded, as it does not feel like a true fold crease
This one is entitled "Day of the Heroic Guerilla" and features the face of Che Guevara on a background of South America. It was printed in 1968, and the artist is Helena (Elena) Serrano. In Cuba 8th October is the Day of the Heroic Guerrilla and commemorates the revolutionary life of Che Guevara, executed by the CIA on October 9th 1967. This poster is vibrant, dramatic, colourful and celebratory. Che had only been dead a year and already he was becoming an icon, a symbol of the revolution and deified as the romantic freedom fighter. This is an early example of the use of Korda's famous cropped photograph of Che. Designer Elena Serrano has used pop art stylings to merge the legend with the Latin America that the Cuban leaders believed would eventually succumb to similar revolutions.
Condition is stated above. This was NOT a paper poster from a magazine with folds running vertically and horizontally. It is either silk screened or offset ( I cannot tell the difference) and is on heavy stock poster paper. There is a thick texture to the surface and the colors are very vibrant.
