This impressive original oil painting by the internationally acclaimed Joseph Wallace King, aka "VINCIATA", was painted oil on canvas and dated in 1957 by the artist himself. It is titled "Young Mother". The painted canvas inside the frame measures 47" wide by 59" high. Including the original frame, it measures 56" x 68". Incredibly striking and large, the painting features a young barefoot mother feeding her infant, with a luminous Italian castle in the background, seemingly lost in thought. Joe privately sold this painting to Charlie Babcock, grandson to RJ Reynolds tobacco king, in the late 50's for the sum of $18,000 and was displayed in his private home in Winston Salem, NC until his passing in 2004. From my personal collection.
Joseph Wallace King (1911-1996) painted Richard Nixon, The Queen of England and many of the Royal Saudi Family. There are two books about him, his life and his work. "There Ain't No Rags in Beverly Hills" and "The Art of Vinciata", of which this painting is pictured.
